Durga Puja, the most awaited annual Bengali event of our times is here, when the Puja fever grips the heart of every Bengali in San Francisco Bay Area regardless of age, caste, class or gender…the heart of any Bong thumps faster in anticipation of the homecoming of goddess Durga.

The magical hymns, the mixed smell of Incense sticks and dhuno, flowers and fruits, unrelenting beating of dhaak, lingering vendors with amazingly colorful exhibits and the smell of Bengali delicacies tie together nearly every Bengali and give us the ecstasy of experiencing a wave of euphoria that goes beyond customs, rituals, reasoning, and logic.

Our beloved Mother is descending from her heavenly abode to stay with us in our realm. It is the time when we Bengalis go into a state of spiritual slumber. It’s a time to be well spent with families and friends, or friends who became families in this far away land.
